There are two types of interfacing, but both are used for the same purposes to improve style or durability of the fabric toward wrinkling, creases and bending on surfaces where stiffness is required. (e.g. collars, cuffs)

Sew-in interfacings are placed between the two fabrics during construction and sewn in.

Fusible interfacing’s are applied by heating the back adhesive momentarily then placing it on the desired fabric section.

Notches are cut-in markings on patterns or “sloper” generally used to line up sewing seams. You match or pin the notches first to make sure the rest of the fabric lines up and sits correctly. For the most part notches are marked by triangles on a pattern. Sometimes there is some easing between notches so you have to stretch to make them match up.

Take a look at the illustration below where the two triangle notches appear:

Tendaji Consulting

1. How much capital did you start your company with?

I started with $1500.00

2. What will your company bring to the Dobizo Network?

I hope to help inspiring individuals seeking to establish a clothing line with limited funding at the same time pass along knowledge through blogs and threads about my experience within the fashion community.

3. How long has your company been established and where did it begin?

We started back in my college years in 1999. We started selling T-shirts out the trunk of our cars during football games and other college functions.

4. What obstacles have you faced with starting your clothing line so far?

What companies need to actually get started! Coming up with ideas different for what you see now in the industry. Funding had to be the obstacle that kept delaying the success of the business. Using Photoshop and Illustrator to create our ideas. We had to teach ourselves and do a little research on how to use the software to create our fashion ideas.

Daily Definition of Ease

Posted by: Fashion06 in Daily Definition |

Ease has a slight double meaning depending on what you’re doing in the apparel industry. If you’re working on the fit of a garment then Ease is:

The amount of extra room left in a garment for better movement or appearance in the fit.

If sewing then ease means:

This meaning of Ease refers to molding the shape of the garment instead of adding many seams or darts, as in tailoring. For example a curved piece of fabric can fit into the straight line of a body of fabric.

cupella designs

As a well endowed woman I was always struggling to find tops and dresses that fit without button gaping or bosom overflow. After having a child the situation became much more acute. I spent hours online and in specialty boutiques looking for clothing designed for larger chest sizes that didn’t assume if you had a large cup size you also had a larger rib cage. Nighties were the worst with tiny triangles that wouldn’t fit my elbow and little elastic bands that would be forced down to my waist once the girls were in. I just wanted something made for my chest size with some support that would free me from the tyranny of the bra at all hours and allow me to answer the door when UPS showed up without having to race to find something to cover up my sagging situation. Thus I started thinking about developing my own line. How hard could it be, right?
